CULSR is committed to upholding and maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms. We reject discrimination of all kinds at an organizational and individual level. In all aspects of our organization, we strive to ensure equitable opportunities for all current and prospective members. Our mission seeks to produce a diversity of legal publications, and for this reason, we value diversity within our membership including but not limited to race, religion, age, nationality, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, gender identity, and ability. We firmly believe that the diversity of our writers is one of our organization’s greatest strengths.
We have taken many steps towards promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion during the recruitment cycle. We also fully recognize that DEI is an active, perpetual process rather than simply a website statement. If you have questions or concerns about our diversity and inclusion policies or accommodations during recruitment, feel free to reach out to either of our Editor-in-Chiefs.
New commitment (starting in Fall 2023): After internal discussions, CULSR has created a 2-page interview guide that will be shared with all candidates to whom an interview offer has been extended. While Cornell upperclassmen may have already taken advantage of the many professional development and career-oriented resources on campus, CULSR recognizes that underclassmen— especially freshmen who, in the Fall recruiting cycle, have only been on campus for less than a month— come from different backgrounds that offer differing access to professional development resources. Our resource outlines the three main categories of questions that will be asked during the CULSR interview, and further, even provides sample questions for candidates.
New commitment (starting in Fall 2023): Our Fall 2023 application will include links to on-campus resources that candidates may find helpful during the application process. While upperclassmen hopefully know about on-campus resources, we recognize that underclassmen may not be aware of all on-campus resources—including the Cornell Writing Center or the Cornell Career Development Toolkit— that may be helpful when completing one’s application to our organization.
